Cavities are common at every age, but especially during childhood. At Palos Pediatric Dentistry, we closely monitor your child’s oral health and provide you with the best advice to reduce these cavities.

Lowering Cavity Risks with Your Palos Heights, IL Dentist

We like to see children early to get a jump start on excellent oral health. And our dentist always takes time to examine your child’s teeth and gums thoroughly. The results of these preventive exams dictate treatment.

For example, if your child is prone to cavities, your dentist typically provides a dental sealant or fluoride treatment. A dental sealant locks debris and bacteria away from teeth, and a fluoride treatment remineralizes enamel to provide added protection.

For older children, we offer regular teeth cleanings to eliminate the plaque and bacteria that lead to tooth decay.

Your Role in Your Child’s Oral Health

A member of our dental team will show you how to care for your child’s teeth at home properly. It is crucial for young children that you brush their teeth, and we will show you how.

When your child transitions to independent brushing, we will provide instructions as well. And we recommend supervised brushing (and eventually flossing) to make sure your child is spending enough time on each tooth.

Your child’s dentist may also offer nutrition information, including curbing sweet and acidic snacks and beverages.

Together, we can help your child realize healthy teeth and gums for life.

Is It Time for Your Child’s Checkup?

If it’s time for your child’s next exam—or first exam—reach out to a dental staff member today to get started. And always contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s oral health.

We welcome children from all locations, including Palos Heights, Worth, Chicago Ridge, Oak Lawn, and Orland Park.
