Your child's comfort and their positive experience at our dental office is of the utmost importance to us at Palos Pediatric Dentistry. We understand that some children are fearful or have special needs that may require extra care in helping them complete the dental procedures they require. For this reason, we offer different levels of dental sedation in Palos Heights, IL to help your son or daughter feel at ease in the dental chair.
Nitrous Oxide
Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the mildest form of dental sedation we offer. It's easy to administer through a mask, and it doesn't typically cause any lingering side effects.
Nitrous oxide works quickly to help your child feel comfortable while they remain conscious and responsive. The breathable gas leaves your son or daughter's body as soon as we remove the mask. Your little one should have no trouble getting back to their normal activities after a treatment procedure with nitrous oxide.
Sedation Dentistry
This is a deeper level of sedation and is typically delivered through medication your child takes before their appointment. Similar to nitrous oxide, your son or daughter will still be conscious and responsive, but completely relaxed. Due to the nature of the medication, they will also have little to no memory of their dental procedure.
General Anesthesia
Young children with severe dental phobia, or other developemental or special needs may benefit from having general anesthesia for their dental procedure. When using general anesthesia, your little one will remain unconscious throughout their procedure, and they'll have no memory of it afterwards. This may be administered at our Palos Heights dental office or at the hospital.
Dr. Facko will review your child's medical history and discuss their options for dental sedation with you if it's recommended.
