My child has a permanent tooth coming in behind a baby tooth. What do I do?

permament tooth coming in | mom with daughter You and your child are so excited about losing that first tooth, but then the permanent tooth starts coming in and the baby tooth hasn’t fallen out yet, and he starts to look like Jaws!  Don’t worry, this is very common, and it almost always resolves naturally.  I would want to check to be sure that they baby tooth is at least a little mobile.  Then I would monitor at their check-up visits to be sure that the baby tooth is loosening more and more.  Most often, the baby tooth falls out on its own.  After it does, pressure from the tongue helps to move the permanent tooth forward, toward the correct position.  Please give us a call if you're concerned about your child's tooth.
