Do you give shots? Will it hurt?
In certain situations, children benefit from being numb for a procedure. However, we do not use scary words like “shot,” “poke,” or “hurt.” Instead, we say things like “sleepy juice” and other child-friendly words. When in doubt, do not describe your child’s upcoming appointment in detail. Explaining dental treatment in advance to a child usually leads to elevated anxiety. When you arrive in our office, we will explain to them what we are going to do in child-friendly terms.
