Happy New Year!
Here's to a Healthy New Year!
Happy New Year from everyone at Palos Pediatric Dentistry! With the ringing in of a new year there are sure to be plenty of resolutions – to lose weight, eat healthy, spend less, make more, spend more time with the kids, the list goes on... But, one New Year's resolution that would be great for you and your kids is to “do as you wish your kids to do”. We're always nagging our kids to do more of this or less of that, but then many times we go on to do what we ask them not to do. This is especially true with our diet. How many times have you asked your kids to drink less pop, eat less candy, drink more water, eat more veggies? But then the house is full of Oreo's, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, and M&M's. We want the best for our kids, but we just can't say “no” to ourselves at the grocery store.
Here's a New Year's resolution that's great for the whole family. If it's something your kids shouldn't eat or drink, don't buy it. Period. If it's in the house, I can guarantee they are eating and drinking it. If it's not in the house, they don't have a choice but to find something else to eat or drink. The best part is that you know they're eating and drinking healthier at home, so when you're out for dinner or at a friend's house you can loosen up a little bit, worry less, and nag less. And if it's not in the house you won't be tempted to sneak a few cookies yourself when the kids aren't looking.
So next time you're at the grocery store, skip two aisles. Don't even walk down the “pop/juice/sports drink” aisle, or the “cookie/candy/cracker/chip” aisle. You'll be doing the best thing for your kids, their teeth, and yourself!
